Google is expanding access to one of Gemini's most advanced AI-powered image generation features by making it available for free to more users. The company has begun rolling out its personalized image creation tool, powered by Nano Banana, to eligible free-tier users in the United States after previously limiting the feature to subscribers of Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra plans.

According to India Today, the feature enables users to generate AI-created images using much shorter prompts by leveraging context from Google's connected services.

AI-Powered Personalization

Gemini's image generation feature is built on Personal Context, an AI capability that helps Gemini understand a user's preferences by drawing information from connected Google services.

Instead of describing every detail in a prompt, users can simply ask Gemini to generate images based on their interests, memories, or lifestyle—as long as they grant the required permissions.

How the Feature Works

Powered by Google's Nano Banana image generation model, the feature can connect to services including Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Google Search to deliver more personalized responses and generate images tailored to the user's context.

Google says this allows Gemini to better understand user preferences without requiring lengthy prompts.

For example, a user can simply type "Design my dream home" instead of specifying architectural style, colors, and interior design preferences.

Likewise, users can ask Gemini to "Create an illustration of me with my favorite things," and the AI can automatically reference photos stored in Google Photos instead of requiring manual image uploads.

How to Use It

To access the feature, users must first enable Personal Context and connect supported Google services to Gemini.

Google emphasizes that the feature is entirely optional and requires explicit user consent before Gemini can access any personal information.

Once enabled, Gemini can use context from connected apps such as Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Google Search to create personalized AI-generated images.

Users remain in full control of which Google services Gemini can access and can revoke permissions or disable Personal Context at any time through the Tools menu within the Gemini app.
