Meta Unveils Muse Image AI Model to Power Next-Generation Image Creation
Meta has introduced Muse Image, its first AI image-generation model developed by Superintelligence Labs, with plans to integrate it across Meta AI, Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger.
Meta has unveiled Muse Image, a new artificial intelligence model for image generation that marks the first visual AI system developed by the company's Superintelligence Labs. The model will be integrated into Meta AI, Instagram, and WhatsApp, with support for Facebook and Messenger expected to follow soon.
Part of Meta's New Muse AI Family
Muse Image is part of Meta's new Muse family of AI models, which the company plans to position as the successor to its Llama model series as it develops a new generation of artificial intelligence technologies.
According to Alexandr Wang, head of Superintelligence Labs, Muse Image features agentic AI capabilities, allowing it to work alongside the Muse Spark large language model to understand user prompts, search the web, plan tasks, and generate more accurate, context-aware images.
Wang also revealed that Meta is preparing to launch Muse Video, an AI model designed for video generation, which he said delivers strong performance in prompt adherence, image quality, and frame-to-frame consistency.
Advanced Creative and Editing Features
One of Muse Image's standout capabilities is the ability to reference other Instagram accounts by using the "@" symbol in image prompts. The model can leverage publicly available images from those accounts to create visual representations of individuals in generated content.
Meta emphasized that users retain control over how their public images are used through the platform's privacy settings.
The model also supports image transformation through preset suggestions, enabling users to create invitation cards, postcards, and other creative designs. In addition, it can redesign interior spaces using images sourced from Facebook Marketplace or other websites.
Muse Image includes direct image editing tools that allow users to draw over images to add or remove objects before sharing the final result through posts, Stories, or chats across Meta's apps.
Coming to Instagram Stories First
Meta also announced that Muse Image will power 30 new AI-generated effects for Instagram Stories, initially rolling out in the United States, with broader availability planned for additional countries and other Meta applications in the future.
