No iPhone 18? Apple Rumored to Debut Only Three New iPhones This Fall
Apple is reportedly considering delaying the standard iPhone 18 until 2027 as it prepares to unveil its first foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series, featuring enhanced displays, cameras and the new A20 Pro chip.
Recent leaks suggest Apple could break with its long-standing September launch tradition this year by unveiling only three premium iPhone models, while delaying the standard iPhone 18 until 2027.
The reports come as Apple prepares for its WWDC 2026 developers conference, where it is expected to introduce its next-generation software platforms, including iOS 27, before attention shifts to the upcoming iPhone lineup.
According to industry rumors, the company plans to spotlight the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and Apple's first-ever foldable iPhone. The foldable device is expected to be the centerpiece of the launch event, featuring a passport-style design similar to Google's Pixel Fold, with a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.5-inch outer screen.
The device is also rumored to measure just 4.7mm when unfolded and could carry a price tag exceeding $2,000, placing it firmly in the ultra-premium smartphone segment.
While the new Pro models are not expected to receive a major redesign, they could introduce significant upgrades across display technology, cameras, performance and battery life. Leaks point to brighter and more efficient LTPO+ OLED panels, alongside new color options including Dark Cherry and Cloud Blue.
Apple is also reportedly testing a smaller Dynamic Island, potentially reducing its size by up to 35%, while camera enhancements may include a variable-aperture main sensor and a new three-layer image sensor designed to improve dynamic range, image processing and low-light performance. The front-facing camera could be upgraded to 24 megapixels.
Powering the devices is expected to be Apple's new A20 Pro chip, built on TSMC's 2-nanometer process, delivering faster performance and improved power efficiency. The Pro lineup may also feature up to 12GB of RAM, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max could house one of the largest batteries ever fitted to an iPhone Pro model.
Despite reports of a delay, the standard iPhone 18 is still expected to retain a familiar design while gaining a brighter OLED display, the A20 processor, 12GB of RAM and Apple's new C2 modem, with the company focusing on performance, display quality and battery improvements rather than major design changes.
