Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, bringing a series of hardware refinements that focus on durability, display quality, and usability rather than a dramatic redesign. While the device closely resembles last year's Galaxy Z Fold7, several engineering improvements make it one of Samsung's most advanced foldable smartphones to date.

Slimmer Design Without Compromise

At first glance, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra looks almost identical to its predecessor. However, Samsung has managed to reduce the unfolded thickness to just 4.1 mm, slightly slimmer than the Fold7's 4.2 mm profile.

Despite fitting a larger battery into the same chassis, the company has maintained the phone's weight at 215 grams, preserving its comfortable in-hand feel.

New Armor FlexHinge Improves Folding Experience

One of the biggest upgrades is Samsung's new Armor FlexHinge, inspired by the Galaxy Z TriFold concept.

The redesigned hinge offers:

Smoother opening and closing
Reduced force required to unfold the device
Magnetic-assisted opening mechanism
Improved long-term durability
Less visible display crease

Combined with Samsung's new display construction, the hinge significantly reduces the crease that has traditionally characterized foldable smartphones.

Flex Titanium Display Brings Higher Durability

Samsung has introduced a new Flex Titanium display structure that places a thin titanium layer beneath the OLED panel, supported by an additional titanium backing plate.

This redesign offers several advantages:

Stronger overall display structure
Better rigidity and consistency
Less noticeable crease both visually and by touch
Improved resistance to daily wear

The display also features a new anti-reflective coating, improving visibility under direct sunlight.

Larger Battery in the Same Body

One of the most impressive engineering achievements is fitting a 5,000mAh battery into the same physical dimensions without increasing weight.

This provides longer battery life while maintaining the Fold series' premium slim profile.

More Durable Exterior

Samsung has upgraded the external protection materials across the device.

Key durability improvements include:

Armor Aluminum frame
Gorilla Glass Victus Ceramic 3 protecting the cover display
Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the rear panel
IP48 water and dust resistance

These enhancements make the Fold8 Ultra more resilient while preserving its premium construction.

Display Specifications

Main Display

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra features a new 8-inch Flex Titanium LTPO OLED display with several upgrades.

Specifications include:

8-inch OLED panel
Resolution: 2256 × 2504 pixels
120Hz adaptive refresh rate
HDR10+ support
Improved peak brightness
Anti-reflective coating
Reduced crease visibility

Samsung continues to omit Dolby Vision support, relying instead on HDR10+.

Cover Display

The outer screen remains familiar but continues to deliver flagship performance.

Features include:

6.5-inch LTPO OLED display
Resolution: 1080 × 2520 pixels
120Hz adaptive refresh rate

Adaptive Refresh Rate

Samsung offers two refresh-rate modes:

Adaptive Mode
Standard Mode

Even Standard Mode remains adaptive, limiting refresh rates to 60Hz while dynamically adjusting based on content.

The LTPO panels can reduce refresh rates to:

24Hz during compatible video playback
1Hz when the display is idle to conserve battery

High-refresh-rate gaming is also supported in titles that offer higher frame-rate modes.

SIM Configuration

Samsung has simplified the SIM configuration on the Fold8 Ultra.

Users receive:

One physical nano-SIM slot
Dual eSIM support
Ability to operate with two eSIMs if preferred

Available Colors

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra launches in four color options:

Graphite Gray
Cream
Purple
Green (Samsung online exclusive)

The green finish is available exclusively through Samsung's official online store and Samsung Experience Stores.

Final Thoughts

Rather than reinventing its foldable flagship, Samsung has focused on meaningful refinements with the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. The new Armor FlexHinge, Flex Titanium display, reduced crease, brighter screen, stronger materials, and larger battery collectively deliver a noticeably more polished foldable experience.

While the exterior design remains familiar, the internal engineering improvements make the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra one of Samsung's most durable and technologically advanced foldable smartphones to date.
