Samsung has officially introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 8 during its Galaxy Unpacked event in London, unveiling one of three new foldable smartphones alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The launch marks a significant evolution in Samsung's foldable strategy, offering multiple devices tailored to different segments of the premium smartphone market.

Unlike previous generations, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is no longer the direct successor to the Fold 7. Samsung has restructured its Fold lineup, positioning the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra as the flagship model while the standard Fold 8 focuses on portability, a wider display, and a more accessible premium experience.

Wider Display Inspired by Tablets

One of the biggest changes is the phone's 4:3 aspect ratio, giving it a noticeably wider profile than earlier Fold devices. Samsung says the new design delivers a tablet-like experience when unfolded, making it better suited for reading, web browsing, multitasking, and productivity.

The company has also refined the foldable display, reducing the visibility of the center crease to create a smoother and more immersive viewing experience.

Samsung's Lightest Foldable Smartphone Yet

Weighing just 201 grams, Samsung describes the Galaxy Z Fold 8 as the world's lightest foldable smartphone.

Despite its lighter weight, the device is built around a Flex Titanium frame and Samsung's new Armor FlexHinge, engineered to improve durability during repeated folding while maintaining a slimmer profile.

Flagship Performance

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is powered by the same flagship processor found across Samsung's latest foldable lineup—the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy platform.

Memory and storage configurations include:

12GB RAM + 256GB storage
12GB RAM + 512GB storage
16GB RAM + 1TB storage

The top-tier configuration matches the storage and memory options available on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

The smartphone is equipped with a 4,800mAh battery, balancing battery life with its lightweight design.

Cameras Designed for Everyday Content Creation

Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with:

50MP main camera
50MP ultra-wide camera
10MP selfie cameras

Unlike the Ultra model, the Fold 8 does not include a dedicated telephoto camera, placing greater emphasis on everyday photography rather than advanced zoom capabilities.

The device supports 8K video recording at 30fps, making it suitable for creators producing high-resolution content for social media and other platforms.

A New Direction for Samsung's Foldable Strategy

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 represents a major shift in Samsung's foldable portfolio. By separating the Fold lineup into standard and Ultra models, the company is following a strategy similar to its Galaxy S series, giving consumers a broader range of premium foldable options.

The launch comes as competition intensifies from manufacturers including Honor, Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi, while industry expectations continue to build around Apple's anticipated entry into the foldable smartphone market.
