WhatsApp Now Lets Users Create and Manage Accounts Directly on iPad Without an iPhone
Meta has introduced a long-awaited WhatsApp update that allows users to create and manage accounts directly on iPad, while also rolling out new features for CarPlay, PDF handling, and music sharing.
Meta has rolled out a long-awaited update for WhatsApp, allowing iPad users to create and manage new accounts directly on Apple's tablet without first linking the device to a smartphone.
The move marks a significant improvement to the iPad experience, removing one of the biggest limitations users faced since WhatsApp launched its dedicated iPad app.
Standalone WhatsApp Accounts on iPad
Previously, iPad users had to rely on WhatsApp's Linked Devices feature, meaning a primary account first had to be created on a smartphone before connecting the tablet.
With the latest update, users can now register a brand-new WhatsApp account entirely from an iPad and begin using the app independently.
However, Meta noted that registration still requires a valid phone number capable of receiving a one-time password (OTP) verification code. Once verification is complete, the account operates independently on the iPad rather than serving as a companion device.
Improved CarPlay Experience
The update also introduces enhancements for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, making it easier for drivers to interact with WhatsApp while on the road.

Reply to chats
Make voice calls
View call history
Access contact information
Use voice commands through the vehicle's infotainment system
Better PDF Support
WhatsApp has also upgraded its PDF handling capabilities.
Users can now open PDF documents directly inside the app without downloading them first. The update also introduces basic editing tools, including:
Text highlighting
Adding notes and annotations
Music Sharing to WhatsApp Status
Another new feature enables users of Spotify and Apple Music to share the song they're currently listening to directly to their WhatsApp Status through the native sharing options available in both music apps.
Building on the Dedicated iPad App
Meta first launched the official WhatsApp application for iPad in May 2025, after years of offering dedicated versions only for iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows, and the web.
The latest update further expands WhatsApp's functionality on Apple's tablet, bringing it closer to a fully independent messaging experience without relying on another device.
