Egypt's Motorcycle Market Grows 53% as Demand Surges in 2026
Motorcycle registrations in Egypt jumped 53.1% during the first five months of 2026, driven by rising demand for affordable transportation and the rapid expansion of app-based delivery services, according to industry data.
Egypt's motorcycle market recorded strong growth during the first five months of 2026, with registrations rising 53.1%, according to the latest monthly report from the Egyptian Compulsory Motor Insurance Pool.
The report showed that the number of motorcycles issued compulsory insurance policies increased to approximately 110,700 units between January and May 2026, compared with 72,300 units during the same period in 2025.
Demand Driven by Affordability and Delivery Services
Gamal Abdel Moaty, Head of the Light Transport Division at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, attributed the surge in demand to consumers increasingly choosing lower-cost, fuel-efficient transportation options, alongside the continued expansion of delivery and light transport services.
Speaking to Al Borsa, he said the market has witnessed robust sales in recent months, fueled by changing consumer behavior, growing reliance on last-mile delivery services, and a rising number of young people entering the sector as a source of income.
He noted that motorcycle and scooter prices start at around EGP 35,000, while the most popular 150cc conventional models typically range between EGP 50,000 and EGP 80,000. Sports motorcycles, meanwhile, start at approximately EGP 100,000 and can reach EGP 250,000, depending on engine size and specifications.
Delivery Companies Account for Most Sales
Mohamed Mostafa, a motorcycle dealer, said repeated increases in new car prices have encouraged more consumers to switch to motorcycles as a more affordable alternative, particularly after vehicle prices rose by between EGP 10,000 and EGP 400,000 over the past period.
He estimated that delivery companies accounted for around 80% of total motorcycle sales during the first five months of 2026, reflecting the rapid expansion of app-based food and parcel delivery services. The remaining sales were largely attributed to sports motorcycles.
Mostafa added that motorcycle prices increased during the first quarter of the year due to higher import costs, inflation, and exchange-rate fluctuations before stabilizing over the past two months.
Chinese Imports Dominate the Market
According to market participants, Chinese-made motorcycles account for approximately 80% of Egypt's motorcycle imports, followed by products from India, Italy, France, Germany, and Japan.
They also noted that nearly 90% of motorcycles sold in Egypt are imported as completely built units (CBUs), while only a limited share is assembled locally.
Fuel Efficiency Boosts Popularity
One motorcycle importer said fuel efficiency remains one of the biggest drivers of demand, noting that motorcycles can travel more than twice the distance of many passenger cars using the same amount of fuel, making them especially attractive for commuters and delivery workers.
He added that routine maintenance costs have risen by around 30% due to higher spare parts prices. However, growing demand from app-based delivery companies has helped boost motorcycle sales by an estimated 60% to 70% over the past period.
