Egypt's automotive market recorded strong growth during the first quarter of 2026, with total vehicle sales rising 56.26% year over year to 49,130 units, compared with 31,442 vehicles sold during the same period in 2025, according to a report by the Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC).

According to the report, passenger car sales increased by 60% to 38,461 units, up from 24,111 vehicles in the corresponding period last year.

Meanwhile, bus sales across all categories surged 75.2%, reaching 3,504 units, compared with approximately 2,000 buses during the first quarter of 2025.

Truck sales also posted solid growth, climbing 34.4% to 7,165 units, compared with 5,331 vehicles in the same period a year earlier.

Overprice Premiums Decline as Market Conditions Improve

The report comes as Egypt's automotive market has witnessed a noticeable decline in "overprice" premiums over the past two weeks. The unofficial markups imposed by some dealers on selected vehicle models have fallen by 25% to 50%, signaling a gradual easing of price pressures.

The decline has been supported by a relative easing of geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran following a period of escalation that affected global energy prices and currency markets.

At the same time, weaker domestic demand, driven by reduced purchasing power and persistent inflationary pressures, has contributed to slowing vehicle price increases across the market.
