Egypt Auto Market Stabilizes as Car Prices Improve and Used Vehicles Average EGP 400K–500K
Egypt's auto market is stabilizing, with lower premiums, improved pricing, and used cars averaging EGP 400,000 to EGP 500,000.
Egypt's automotive market has become more stable in recent months, with vehicle prices improving compared with levels seen just two months ago, according to Khaled Saad, Secretary-General of the Auto Manufacturers Association.
Speaking in a televised interview with Extra News, Saad said Egyptian consumers remain the primary force behind market stability, describing buyers as the "balancing factor" that determines pricing trends.
Consumers Urged to Reject Overpricing
Saad criticized the practice of "overprice" markups imposed by some distributors above manufacturers' official list prices, stressing that such premiums do not reflect the true market value of vehicles.
He urged consumers to insist on paying the official prices announced by authorized dealers, arguing that doing so would help prevent further market distortions.
Economy Cars Range Between EGP 650,000 and EGP 900,000
According to Saad, prices for new economy-class vehicles currently start at around EGP 650,000 and reach approximately EGP 900,000.
He noted that this segment accounts for nearly 70% of Egypt's automotive market, while vehicles priced above EGP 3 million represent less than 5% of total consumer demand.
"The current market prices are better than they were one or two months ago," Saad said.
Lower Exchange Rate Could Lead to Further Price Declines
Saad explained that any continued decline in the U.S. dollar's exchange rate against the Egyptian pound would likely support further reductions in vehicle prices.
He noted that exchange rates remain the most significant factor affecting:
Vehicle import costs
Shipping expenses
Customs duties
"As long as the exchange rate continues to decline, we are moving toward lower car prices," he said.
Buying Advice for Consumers
Saad advised consumers who are not in immediate need of a vehicle to avoid rushing into purchases, saying calmer demand helps maintain market stability.
However, he added that buyers who genuinely need a car should not delay their purchase because future exchange-rate movements remain uncertain.
"No one can accurately predict where the exchange rate will be in a week or a month," he said.
Summer Expected to Boost Sales
Saad expects the market to gain momentum during July and August, driven by the summer season, the return of Egyptians working abroad, and the start of the university season.
He described this period as the automotive market's peak buying season.
Used Cars Average EGP 400,000–500,000
Saad also said that average prices for standard used vehicles currently range between EGP 400,000 and EGP 500,000.
He noted that a used vehicle's value ultimately depends on several factors, including:
Overall condition
Specifications
Mileage
Maintenance history
