Egypt’s traffic authorities have announced the requirements, conditions, and estimated costs for obtaining or renewing a private driving license in 2026.
Egypt’s General Traffic Department has outlined the requirements and procedures for obtaining a private driving license for the first time in 2026.
Applicants are required to submit a valid national ID card, graduation certificate, application form (Form 256), recent passport-sized photographs, a medical fitness certificate, and an approved drug test. Candidates must also pass both theoretical and practical driving examinations.
To qualify, applicants must be at least 18 years old, have no criminal convictions involving dishonesty or moral misconduct, and meet the required physical and mental fitness standards for driving. The licensing process typically takes between 10 and 14 working days.
For license renewal, motorists must first settle any outstanding traffic violations and submit their previous driving license, national ID card, Form 256, and proof of fee payment.
The estimated total cost of obtaining a private driving license in 2026 is around EGP 1,140, covering mandatory taxes, insurance fees, medical examinations, application forms, and traffic testing charges.
