Land Rover Discovery Sport Production to End in 2026 as Luxury Strategy Expands
Land Rover will stop producing the Discovery Sport by the end of 2026 as part of its strategy to focus on premium vehicles and electric mobility.
Land Rover is preparing to end production of the Discovery Sport, the most affordable model in its current lineup, after more than 11 years on the global market.
The decision comes as Jaguar Land Rover undergoes a major transformation, with the company shifting its focus toward higher-end Range Rover models, future electric vehicles, and more profitable segments.
The automaker confirmed that production of the Discovery Sport will officially end in December 2026, following the standard product lifecycle strategy and a gradual reduction of manufacturing activity in some markets ahead of the final production date.
Discovery Sport Production Ends in December 2026
Jaguar Land Rover confirmed that the Discovery Sport will leave production lines by December 2026, with some markets already limiting or stopping new orders.
In the United Kingdom, customers can still place orders for a limited period, depending on available production capacity until the final manufacturing deadline.
Following the model’s retirement, production capacity is expected to be allocated to upcoming vehicles, including the planned Range Rover GT, which represents part of Land Rover’s next-generation product strategy.
Why Is Land Rover Discontinuing the Discovery Sport?
Although the Discovery Sport played an important role for Land Rover after its launch in 2014, its position has weakened in recent years, becoming one of the brand’s lowest-selling models.
Several factors contributed to the decision to end production, including:
Rising development costs required to meet new safety and emissions regulations
Lower profit margins compared with larger and more premium models
The company’s increasing focus on electric and hybrid vehicles
The absence of a clear plan for a new generation of the model
The Discovery Sport previously received major updates, including support for advanced technologies such as 48-volt mild-hybrid systems and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
Land Rover’s Future Strategy After Discovery Sport
The retirement of the Discovery Sport is part of a broader strategy aimed at redefining Land Rover’s identity.
The company is moving toward a more premium positioning, with greater emphasis on advanced technology, electrification, and luxury experiences.
Land Rover will continue relying on its key models, including Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Defender, while preparing to introduce new vehicles that expand beyond its traditional SUV-focused image.
The upcoming Range Rover GT is expected to represent a new direction for the brand, reflecting its ambition to compete more strongly in the luxury automotive market.
As the automotive industry moves rapidly toward electrification and high-end mobility solutions, Land Rover is reshaping its portfolio to focus on vehicles with stronger profitability, advanced technology, and a more exclusive customer experience.
