Egypt’s Reme-D Raises $1.45 Million Pre-Series A to Expand Molecular Diagnostics Across Africa
Egyptian healthtech startup Reme-D has secured $1.45 million in Pre-Series A funding to scale manufacturing, expand across Africa, and accelerate the development of affordable molecular diagnostic solutions.
Egyptian healthtech startup Reme-D, a developer and manufacturer of molecular diagnostic solutions, has closed a $1.45 million Pre-Series A funding round led by Anara Impact Capital, with participation from Global Innovation Fund, Africa Health Ventures, and several additional investors.
Expanding Access to Advanced Diagnostics
Founded to improve access to advanced diagnostic technologies across Africa and other underserved healthcare markets, Reme-D develops rapid, accurate, low-cost, and heat-stable molecular diagnostic tests.
The company's product portfolio targets a range of infectious diseases, including tuberculosis (TB), HIV, hepatitis, and human papillomavirus (HPV)—the leading cause of cervical cancer among women.
Funding to Support Growth and Product Development
The newly raised capital will be used to expand the company's manufacturing capacity, strengthen its regional footprint, and broaden its portfolio of diagnostic solutions.
Reme-D also plans to introduce new molecular tests for genetic disorders and cancer, while continuing to develop heat-resistant diagnostic kits designed for easier transportation and storage in remote communities and healthcare facilities with limited infrastructure.
Growing Manufacturing and Regional Impact
Since 2023, Reme-D has developed and launched 30 molecular diagnostic products from its manufacturing facility in Cairo.
The company has supplied more than 550,000 diagnostic tests across Egypt, Kenya, and Sudan, serving public and private laboratories, hospitals, and research institutions. Its technologies have also been featured in several international scientific publications, and the company has filed a U.S. patent application for its proprietary platform.
In one of its latest initiatives, Reme-D equipped a solar-powered mobile laboratory, commissioned by the World Health Organization's Egypt office, to support Egypt's Ministry of Health in monitoring vector-borne diseases in remote areas.
Scaling Production Capacity
As its workforce has grown from five employees to 50, Reme-D is preparing to relocate to a new 1,500-square-meter manufacturing facility and upgrade its production equipment.
The expansion is expected to increase manufacturing capacity by tenfold, while strengthening the company's quality assurance systems, regulatory compliance capabilities, and presence across African markets.
