Majed Ghoneima, entrepreneur, angel investor, and expert in commercializing technology and scientific research, has welcomed the official launch of Startup Egypt, a non-profit initiative designed to connect entrepreneurs with investment opportunities, mentorship networks, and the resources needed to scale their businesses.

In a post on LinkedIn, Ghoneima said the idea behind Startup Egypt emerged from years of working with global technology companies and supporting startup growth. He emphasized that entrepreneurial success is rarely achieved in isolation and depends on a strong ecosystem of mentors, partners, investors, and industry experts.

He noted that many pivotal moments in his career were driven by guidance from experienced professionals who helped him identify new opportunities and adopt broader perspectives. Those experiences, he said, inspired the creation of Startup Egypt to help the next generation of founders navigate their entrepreneurial journeys.

The initiative was officially launched in the presence of ministers from Egypt’s ministerial group for entrepreneurship, alongside senior government officials, investors, and public figures. The organization unveiled its slogan, “Grow with People Who Understand the Journey,” highlighting the importance of building supportive communities for entrepreneurs.

Ghoneima stressed that startup founders should not have to build their companies alone and that access to mentorship, networking opportunities, and practical support is essential for sustainable growth.

Widely recognized as one of the leading figures in Egypt’s entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem, Ghoneima brings more than 15 years of experience in supporting startups and technology commercialization. Throughout his career, he has mentored hundreds of startups and helped transform numerous research projects and innovations into successful commercial ventures.

As an angel investor, he founded an investment network that has backed more than 80 startups and achieved several successful exits over the past five years.

Ghoneima holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Ain Shams University and earned a PhD in Computer Engineering from Northwestern University in 2006. He previously held research and engineering roles at Intel and NVIDIA and has published more than 50 scientific papers in international journals and conferences.

After spending more than a decade in the United States, he returned to Egypt to lead the Mechatronics Engineering Department at Ain Shams University. He also founded and directed the university’s Innovation Hub (iHub), served as Director of Strategy and Partnerships at the Innovators Support Fund, and acted as an advisor to Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Over the past decade, Ghoneima has co-founded more than 10 technology startups, delivered over 2,000 hours of mentoring to more than 400 startups, and led specialized training programs in innovation and entrepreneurship for students, professionals, and business executives.

Today, he advises more than 50 startups, SMEs, corporations, and universities across the region, leveraging his expertise in technology, entrepreneurship, and investment.
