Egyptian e-payment solutions provider Fawry has inked an agreement with multinational cloud software system provider NARD to deliver an integrated Point-of-Sale (POS) and digital payment solution for merchants, according to a company statement released on Monday.

NARD has been providing cashier systems for POS, as well as retail sales management and payment services for over 15 years. Their technological solutions are designed to meet the retail industry's needs across the Middle East and North Africa. NARD has a presence in Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.

Since 2008, Fawry has become the largest e-payment provider in Egypt in the non-banking financial services sector, as it allows consumers to handle bill payments and retail and digital financial transactions.

Egypt’s consumer finance market, which recorded a total volume of EGP 8.5 billion during January 2026 alone, has been shifting to relying on non-banking credit lines to secure essential household and retail goods before price adjustments take effect due to inflation.

The partnership aims to widen the range of accepted digital payments and unify in-store and digital transactions to enhance customer experience in Egypt’s retail and fintech sectors, “where the need for integrated, end-to-end solutions is becoming increasingly important,” according to Head of Business Development at Fawry Bassem Lotfy.

Around round 53 percent of small and medium-sized enterprises integrated digital payments in 2025, while merchants said that e-payments have boosted their sales, increased customer loyalty, and contributed to their business growth.

Furthermore, NARD will integrate its cloud-based POS system with Fawry’s payment infrastructure to enable merchants to improve their operational efficiency and front-end retail operations with secure and scalable payment processing and to manage sales, inventory, and transactions under one platform.

This aligns with Egypt’s efforts to upgrade its banking infrastructure to transition to a cashless society as well as accelerate and improve digital transformation and payments.

The country has been pushing to promote financial inclusion. It launched contactless electronic payment services via POS through the Central Bank of Egypt to eliminate the purchase and maintenance costs of traditional POS terminals for payment service providers, companies, and merchants, and to include small enterprises in the electronic payment ecosystem.

Cashless transactions in Egypt are projected to reach $27.63 billion by 2027, growing at an annual rate of about 14 percent. This comes as e-wallets continue to be a part of everyday financial interactions, growing to 718 million transactions during the second quarter of 2025, as financial inclusion grows.

Fawry has also been working to expand digital transformation in Egypt, incorporating its solutions “more deeply within key industry ecosystems,” Lotfy said.

Fawry was recently backed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), providing up to EGP 250 million (4.4 million euros) to Fawry’s microfinance arm to support youth-led micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Egypt, with a focus on rural areas.

The EBRD has strategic priorities in Egypt in promoting digital transformation and private-sector capacity building, investing more than 14.2 billion euros across 221 projects in the country since 2012.
